After Root Canal
- When we complete the RCT, we put a temporary filling to cover the hole (access), it is soft and will take about 24 hours to harden. Try not to chew on the treated tooth, let the tooth rest. If the temporary filling falls out, you can come back to our office and we will put the temporary filling back for you.
- After RCT, you may feel dull soreness of the treated tooth, as well as on the gum tissues around the tooth. This is a normal reaction, you can rinse with warm salt water, take some over the counter pain medication, or use the Dentist’s prescription.
- Do not chew hard food on the treated tooth before you have the permanent restoration, such as a crown. You may fracture the tooth by biting hard.
- If you have any swelling on the gum around the treated tooth, swelling on the jaw, throbbing pain, you may need to take a course of antibiotics. This sometimes occurs after RCT.
- After RCT you will wait about 1 – 2 weeks to let the tissues heal, and then you will see your regular dentist for post/core and crown restoration. If the tooth still bothers you, you may need to follow up with us, postpone and reschedule the appointment for the post/core and crown.
